EER International Conference 2019

Arnhem, the Netherlands
22, 23 May

Empowering sustainability

During the two-day international conference Empowering Sustainability you will meet other European partners, innovative start-up and scale-up hubs and clusters from various European regions. Together entrepreneurs, municipalities, corporates, education and research institutes will set to work to accelerate innovation in sustainability. The conference is the time to be inspired as well as a next step to European cooperation with other entrepreneurs, authorities and education institutes.

Day 1. Get inspired

Speakers from a variety of disciplines are invited to give their vision on the theme Empowering Sustainability from their perspective. Each with their conclusions, their experience and their dreams. All with the same goal: we have to act now for a sustainable future. Why is it so urgent and why is collaboration between science, entrepreneurs and government the only way to speed up innovation on sustainability?

Based on our joint activities, EIT Climate-KIC is asked to contribute to the EER International Conference of the Province of Gelderland on 22 May in Arnhem. Our Innovation Lead, Erik van Wijk, will give a keynote about our vision on how to retrofit 1 Million Homes to Near-Zero Energy Homes by 2023. An enormous task that we are only able to do if we join all the capacity that is available. EIT Climate-KIC is working with partners all over Europe to develop a specific programme and will present the latest news during this conference.

Investing in innovation and sustainability is NOW needed

The conference starts with a wake up call: why should we quit pushing the snooze button when it comes to our future? It is really about WHY investing innovation and sustainability is NOW needed. The programme starts with a global perspective (covering the topics food, agriculture, climate adaptation and mitigation), followed by reflections from different perspectives: the role of entrepreneurs in accelerating sustainable innovation, government policies to strengthen markets, examples and exchange of good practices, and new ways of cooperation.

The goal of the conference is building and strengthening cross border and international relations, sharing knowledge and best practices and showcasing Gelderland as an innovative and entrepreneurial region.

Day 2. Empowering connection

The second day we will split into 5 groups, with more thematic goals. Look into the themes that matter: (agri)Food, Health, Energy, Industry and SME Tools. Learn from sustainable projects, innovative companies and remarkable locations in Gelderland.
